English Ash Wood Ring
This Ring is made from English Ash (distinct from american ash.) It is a golden straw colour but can have tonal variations depending on what altitude it is grown at, mountain ash is known to have pink or green tones. This wood has quite a dramatic grain, the flesh of the wood that grows in the summer is strong and smooth. Then the winter growth is slow, leaving a deep long brown grain. This seasonal growth gives ash it's iconic look and makes a beautiful ring. The wood is smooth but the long deep grain leaves a very interesting veining across it's surface, and when it has been oiled and treated; it has a fantastic shimmer.

English Ash (Fraxinus excelsior)
This native tree of England grows abundantly in any mild climate, and has been used for centuries in building. The wood has a shock resistant structure which makes it choice for tools and instruments.
Like the oak, ash has a vast history in Europe from keeping away evil spirits to being made into medicine. It can even be found on many towns' coat of arms .
The word ash comes from the old English æsc which means 'spear' this is because it was known to be the choice wood for weapon making.
