American Walnut Wood Ring

This ring is made from American Walnut. This particular type of walnut has soft and sometimes silvery mid tone browns running through it, with a straight, long grain.
Walnut has a rich history from being used for its strength as airplane propellers in world war one, to being used as treatments for skin conditions due to the medicinal properties of its sap. In recent years it has been used mainly for high value furniture making due to the beauty of it and that is why I chose it! it really is a wood-lovers wood!
American walnut trees grow very widely across the eastern USA in mixed hardwood forests and on farms, concentrated in central states but spread from Texas to the eastern seaboard. The trees are one of the few hardwood species planted as well as occurring and regenerated naturally. They grow relatively tall and straight with few lower branches.

American Walnut Wood Ring

  • Your Ring starts life as a sheet of thinly cut wood that I would then trim a strip off of, depending on what size you have asked for.

The selected strip is then steamed and coiled, leaving it to dry out for about 24 hours.

The dried coil of wood is then fixed around whichever ring size has been selected and then treated with oil and resin to make a waterproof ring blank.

Your ring blank will then be hand turned down to the right size and profile depending on what you have asked for.

(I make my wooden bands with slightly heavy walls, this helps the wood strength and durability)

Now your ring blank will be shaped to the right dimensions using a wood lathe, to just the right shape. It will then be sealed with an additional waterproof coating and then hand finished.
