Rustic Hammered Silver Ring

This ring is made by first creating a sand mould and then pouring in liquid sterling silver. After the ring is cast it is shaped and sized by hand hammering. The finish is attained by using two contrasting processes, firstly a very industrial hammering and secondly a refining polish. The polishing takes back the gritted texture to reveal some of the facets left by the impact of the larger hammers. Together they form a well balanced effect of a low polish texture. The Hammered Band is my most industrial ring and its character comes from the process that it is made by.

Your ring starts life as small recycled pieces known as casting grain.

I will then prepare a former (master) of your ring, the right size and shape but made out of wax or wood.

Then I will prepare a sand mould around the master and shape a pouring point and some air let holes (sprues)

After carefully removing the master, I heat up your chosen metal in a ceramic pot (crucible). When the metal is a glowing liquid, I will then pour it into the mould.

When it has cooled, your ring is then cleaned up (fettled) and refined. At this point depending on what design has been asked for, I may put the ring through another process to shape or size or refine it further.

When I am happy that your ring sits nicely on the finger and feels comfortable I will polish out the middle. The last stage is an ultrasonic cleaning before your ring is on its way to you.

(All gold orders will be sent to London for a metal finnes test and have the UK full standard mark applied)

RETURNS - If you are not happy with your ring, we will offer you an 80% refund of the price upon receipt of the returned ring. This is because your ring is made specifically for you, so the 20% helps pay for the work already completed and helps with shipping fees.

EXCHANGES - However we want to work with you until you are completely satisfied, if this means altering your ring slightly or swapping it for one more suited (a fee may apply for the making of a new product)
